Development Director Job Opening

Organizational Mission: The mission of FDE is to cultivate a resilient agricultural economy and regional food system by supporting small to mid-sized farmers and increasing healthy, local food access in Eastern NC.

 

About Feast Down East: The organization works with small farms located within a 100 mile radius of the Feast Down East (FDE) Food Hub, located in the Burgaw Historic Train Depot, helping to connect locally produced food to wholesale markets and direct to consumers. This is done through product sales, relationship building and needs assessments with local growers, businesses, institutions, community partners, and grocery stores as well as through our Local Motive Mobile Farmers’ Market that sells products at reduced cost in vulnerable communities with food access challenges.

 

Position Details:  The Development Director works with the Executive Director, Department Heads, Marketing Manager, and Board of Directors to plan and execute development strategies while also monitoring progress toward goals. This position supports the Executive Director to cultivate and solicit major gifts from individuals, corporations, civic organizations, and foundations by seeking out opportunities for financial support through grants, events, and sponsorship campaigns.

 

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Executive Director in the effective operation of all development activities required to fund FDE operations and deliver programs within the community
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, board members, volunteers, community groups, and other related agencies
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of donor financial records in accordance with FDE standards
  • Identify, write, report, and manage current and future grant opportunities
  • Organize and facilitate fundraising event opportunities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for single and multi-year resource development efforts in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Curate relationships with foundations, corporations, local businesses for sustained funding and in-kind services
  • Research, analyze, and seek funding opportunities from individual, corporate, agency, and foundation donor bases along with researching and recommending solicitation strategies
  • Update current cultivation and solicitation materials, including FDE’s donor sponsorship package and slide deck, while presenting said materials to potential donors
  • Prepare and present proposals for individual, corporate, and foundation support of FDE
  • Plan and implement development activities to support various fundraising projects/initiatives assigned by the Executive Director, such as events, endowments, major gifts, and planned giving
  • Supervise and coordinate with the Marketing Manager to further support communication needs through: newsletters, blogs, contact lists, content management, organization branding, events, etc.
  • Cultivate new relationships to deepen and broaden FDE’s impact while leveraging existing partnerships to ultimately ensure the best support for members
  • Represent FDE at community, recruiting, and professional events
  • Maintain regular monthly and quarterly Key Performance Indicators (KPI) reporting and data collection efforts including those associated with grant deliverables, and other requirements as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, technical writing, hospitality/event planning, or related fields 
  • 2+ year experience
  • Experienced success in seeking, writing, and leveraging awarded funds through diversified streams
  • Experience with event planning, community outreach, fundraising campaigns
  • Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences for leveraging funds and organizational support
  • Experience with financial and budget management along with organizational planning, tracking, and reporting 
  • Ability to work independently and with a team, with initiative for maintaining communication channels
  • Strong organization and time management with the ability to multitask and take initiative 
  • Track record of meeting/exceeding resource development goals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite
  • Knowledge of donor databases such as Bloomerang and QGiv
  • Knowledge of grant submission and tracking portals, including Fluxx

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Photography and videography skills
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and strategies
  • Knowledge of email marketing platforms, including Mailchimp
  • Experience and/or training on racial justice and equity
  • Considerable knowledge of diversified fundraising techniques and sources of funding for nonprofits
  • Experience in working with nonprofits, agriculture, food systems, or community based organizations

 

Terms & Compensation:

  • Yearly salary ranging between $56,160-$64,480 
  • Full-Time/Salaried position
  • 40 hour work week with work hours between 8am-5pm
  • Hybrid work model with regular in-person meetings and event participation
  • Occasional Saturdays
  • Medical, Dental and Vision Plans; Disability and Life Insurance Plans; IRA matching
  • Paid Time Off including: Holidays, Vacation and Sick Time
  • Position is currently funded through 2027
  • Reports to Executive Director
