Newberry Blueberries
Susie and Al Newberry 5387 NC Highway 53 E., Burgaw, NC Susie and her husband Al Newberry transitioned from sod farming to blueberry farming in 1998, after buying an abandoned blueberry farm in Burgaw, North Carolina. Al farmed all his life, Susie says. They began with 5-10 acres, replanting more and more every year. In 2017 Newberry Blueberries is 50 acres of beautiful blueberries. On the farm lives their horse named Blue and two miniature donkeys, Pretty and Jojo, all of whom love Newberry blueberries! Susie and Al’s son helps out on the farm year round and his friends pitch in during harvest season from the end of May to mid-June.
