Morgan Milne opened Red Beard Farms in 2014. A Carolina Beach native, Morgan Milne graduated from NC State with a degree in horticulture where his interest in farming and permaculture came into fruition. “I spent a lot of time in the arboretum at college and became fascinated with the variety of plants,” he said. Red Beard Farms has 7 acres of fields and 9 acres of woods. Morgan grows vegetables, mushrooms, raises chickens, and dabbles in pork, but he doesn’t do it all alone. Morgan has seasonal help, as well as a full-time assistant year around. He distributes through markets, CSA, Port City Produce and Humble Roots Buying Club, a CSA alternative. “It started as ‘Yay! Let’s feed people’ Now, I just wanna grow vegetables.”
