Robert Collins, Robert Collins is the Director of Farm Operations who is working on the formation of the Community Learning Farm.
Robert is originally from New Jersey. He grew up at the beach, playing music, gardening, working in kitchens and exploring local forests and parks. He moved to Greensboro in 1995 where he was first exposed to using quality local ingredients while working at Southern Lights. He moved to Wilmington in 1998 and continued his love of using local ingredients through connecting with folks like Meg Shelton of Shelton Herb Farm and Nature's Way goat cheeses. Eventually, when established, he started purchasing products through Feast Down East. Over the years while working at restaurants/stores (Portland Grille, Tidal Creek) in Wilmington, he worked with and donated time with local farmers and producers to continue creating a bond to the Earth and learn the craft of working the land responsibly. In 2006 he also owned and ran an organic-based bakery called Stoneground Baking Company that sourced most ingredients from NC. Robert is currently the owner of Copper Sun Micro Farm where he continues to use the lessons he learned along the way to be a responsible Earth steward by using non-impact practices and have respect for the land. Robert has two awesome kids. His hobbies include listening to vinyl, playing music (wanted to be a music teacher), food, and nutrition. |
