We're Hiring! New Mobile Market Manager Position Open

This position will manage the day-to-day operations of Feast Down East's new mobile produce market, which will bring affordable, healthy foods to underserved communities in Wilmington. Feast Down East has been distributing local produce to several public housing neighborhoods on a weekly basis for the past five years and the mobile market will allow us to make these services more efficient and reach more locations. The Mobile Market Manager position will entail the following:


Program Development:

  • Procuring equipment and services to retrofit the mobile market vehicle with shelving, refrigeration, freezer space, etc.

  • Develop relationships with Wilmington Housing Authority (WHA) staff and residents, as well as other partner organizations  

  • Design program implementation and evaluation plan to include: mobile market routes and schedule; product inventory mix, pricing, and procurement processes; sales and other data tracking systems; financial incentives to increase purchasing, especially with Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits; partnerships with other local organizations to provide nutrition education and other health-related services; recruitment and training of WHA residents to serve as program liaisons 

  • As-needed reporting, in writing and/or in person, to Feast Down East Executive Director and Board of Directors, key stakeholders and funders


Market Management:

  • Drive market vehicle (extended-length cargo van) 

  • Operate two market locations per day, four days per week

  • Program administration, one day per week

  • Bring mobile market to community events, 1-2 per month

  • Track product inventory and place restocking orders 

  • Manage program data (sales in Point of Sale system and other data in Excel or similar)  

  • Coordinate with WHA liaisons in each neighborhood to promote mobile market

  • Implement marketing campaigns in WHA neighborhoods and nearby communities (distributing flyers, visiting WHA resident meetings, sharing information with other community organizations, etc.) 



  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record

  • Compliance with drug-free workplace policy 

  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs

  • Willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • General organization skills and data management experience 


Preferred candidate will have experience with: 

  • Local food systems and addressing food access/insecurity issues

  • Designing and implementing community-based services that achieve social and economic justice goals through an equity and empowerment lens

  • Collaborative approaches to community development

  • Customer service 

  • Volunteer management

  • Program evaluation 


Terms & Compensation: 

  • 40 hour work week (regular hours may range between 7am-6pm; TBD based on mobile market schedule)

  • $18 per hour, 50 weeks per year 

  • $200 monthly healthcare stipend

  • Position contingent on grant funding (approximately 3 years, based on existing funds)
