Ona Cleckley, Mobile Market Coordinator, hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and has been calling Wilmington home since fall of 2020. From an early age, Ona gravitated toward healthier alternatives and eating habits, giving up the consumption of meat at just 10 years old. Although her mother did everything she could to accommodate her child's eating preferences, coming from an underserved community herself, the lack of money was always the topic of why the family didn't have a more nutritious diet. She can tell you firsthand, more importantly than the lack of funds, the lack of education of healthy foods and their benefits to us as humans was, and still is, the greatest issue for those around her. As time went on, Ona prioritized organic foods, healthy nutrition, and clean eating - reminding everyone along the way that you are what you eat!
Changing the narrative around healthy foods and who they are available to has become a passion of Ona's through personal experience, and she is eager to use her creativity and love of connecting with people to do just that. She couldn't be more grateful to be a part of a team who is making it more accessible for people of the community to invest in their health. She most looks forward to learning about the local food system, connecting to the community, and the personal growth that is to come from it. Always on the go, you can find Ona instructing a yoga class, creating art, or taking shoe-less walks through nature. ona@feastdowneast.org |
