Shelton Herb Farm
Margaret Shelton 340 Goodman Road, Leland, NC Website / Facebook / Instagram Margaret Shelton began raising food in her backyard to feed her growing family after she left her job at UNCW. In 2017, she has operated Shelton Herb Farm, a local supplier of culinary herbs, cut flowers, and edible flowers, for more than 30 years. Located within a tree farm and protected wildlife preserve in Leland, NC, her farm offers 500 varieties of herbs to retailers and restaurants. She grows everything on the property so that they can control how she treats for pests. “I don’t like to eat poison,” she says. Though she follow natural and organic methods, the farm is not certified USDA organic. The farm is open 52 weeks of the year, growing cool season herbs as the weather grows colder. “I think what we have available is very special” she says.
